Nineties revival is in full swing so expect to see Mariah Carey hot pants and My Girl dungarees. Denim is hard wearing and fabulous in almost any form so whatever shape you are there will be something for you to invest in.
What to wear it with
You have chosen the piece that makes you look amazing, now what to team it with. Classic style is a crisp white t-shirt or shirt and jeans as a relaxed look, consider it the little black dress of casual dressing. Think Calvin Klein campaigns and their simplicity.
Alternatively, team with floral garments for an ultra-feminine style or broderie anglais for a different texture.
Wearing double denim will require though and care to avoid the B*witched references. This look has been around for a while, perhaps because it can be so hard to pull off. Experiment with denim pieces but in different colours, such as a white jacket with stonewash shorts, or a lightweight denim shirt or embroidered crop top with jeans will bring definition to the pieces.
They’re back and they are everywhere this season, dungarees are such a playful piece you can dress them up or down. Wear them loose but, not too baggy. Short dungarees make such a cute daytime look teamed with a varsity jacket, which are everywhere now thanks to the American trend for 2013. Flat shoes finish it off nicely or cork wedges will add height whilst retaining the casual vibe. Avoid the decorating look by wearing the braces done up.
For evening wear, long straight leg dungarees can be dressed up with a cropped T-shirt and killer heels.
If the dungaree design is not for you, consider a lightweight denim playsuit or dress for the same effect.
A pinafore denim dress with wedges is a nice alternative, particularly if you prefer to hide your upper legs.
Characterised by their low waist and baggy straight leg fit with wide hems, these are a casual must have that suit most body shapes. Such a nice relaxed vibe to them it’s no wonder this shape is a wardrobe essential.
Ah the denim jacket. Rag and Bone have a wide range of stylish jackets with a modern twist for inspiration. Keep it cropped and fitted, and consider sleeveless for the summer
Finally a tip to help retain the colour of your denim is to wash the item of clothing inside out and avoid fabric softener.
