We may have all moved on to 2013, but 2012 was a fun year for fashion. Music divas like Rihanna and Katy Perry worked their edgy styles on stage, while movie stars like Jennifer Lawrence and Jessica Chastain made our jaws drop on the red carpet. Our favorite looks to critique, however, are never the style choices of solo stars. Instead, it’s way more fun to analyze celebrity fashion when it comes to us in the form of famous couples. Here are the best and worst dressed couples of 2012.
Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling – Ryan and Eva may be red-hot, but they’re a bit camera shy when it comes to walking the red carpet together. Regardless, they always look amazing. Eva is a total throwback to old Hollywood glamour in her stunning gowns and chic up-dos, while Ryan is a total heartthrob in perfectly tailored suits.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie – By now, Brad and Angelina are a total staple of any red carpet. But just because we’re used to them doesn’t mean that we’re sick of them. Brad and Angelina always dominate at every awards show or premiere they attend. Brad has never lost his leading man style, and Angelina wears a designer gown better than most supermodels.
Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart – Now that The Twilight Saga has ended, perhaps we can finally be free of the Rob and Kristen onslaught. They may make us swoon as Edward and Bella, but as a real-life couple they leave much to be desired. Unless they’ve been professionally styled for an appearance or premiere, they always look equally grungy and miserable to be seen together. We don’t need our celebrity couples to be constantly dressed to the nines; however, we do ask that they at least do their laundry and flash us a smile once in a while.
Taylor Swift and Everyone – Poor Taylor Swift. She might be the biggest country star in the world, but she is as unlucky in love as it gets. While we love to rock out to her poppy songs about love and breakups, we must admit that we’re more than a bit sick of watching her play musical boyfriends. Plus, she seems to abandon her personal style and adapt the style of whatever guy she is with at the time, which is a huge fashion no-no. She was a preppy New England high school girl when she romanced Conor Kennedy and took on a grungy hipster look that didn’t suit her when she was with Harry Styles. Our advice to Taylor is to take a break from speed-dating and to be confident in her own style.
2012 was an amazing year for celebrity couples, and we can’t wait to see what 2013 has in store. Hopefully the worst dressed couples will slowly start to fade, in addition to new best dressed couples rising to the top.
