The Raymond Weil Maestro Automatic Moon Phase Watch masterfully combines classic design, stylish complications, and well-conceived functionality. This watch is an investment, with renowned Swiss engineering powering elegant phase-of-the-moon, month, week number, day, and date complexities.
The Maestro line features five Phase de Lune offerings. Each watch is built in the classic round design, with sapphire crystals on front and back, automatic winding, 38-42 hour power reserve (depending on model) and 165 ft. water resistance. All the watches have push button setting for complications, precluding the need for special tools. The only disadvantage is that setting these watches between 8PM and 1AM can damage the mechanism. This is a common restriction in watch making technology; however, as this is often marketed as a men’s evening dress watch, not an everyday accessory, the time frame of the restriction is inconvenient. The aesthetics of this timepiece far offset that minor drawback.
- 2839-STC-00209 and 2839-STC-00659 come in stainless steel with black face and silver hands or silver face and midnight blue hands. The bands are leather with alligator pattern. These offer the Phase de Lune window and date complications.
- 12849-STC-00659 and 12849-G-00659 both have silver faces and blue hands. The stainless steel option has a leather band with alligator pattern, while the gold version carries a full alligator skin band. Both offer the Phase de Lune window, month, day, and date. The date hand has a delicate crescent moon that embraces the date numbers on the perimeter of the watch face.
- 2859-STC-00659 is stainless steel, with silver face, blue hands and a leather band with alligator pattern. Day and date are on two silver sub faces. Month and week number occupy the face’s perimeter and are indicated by the blue hand with the crescent moon.
2859-STC-00659 is also known as the Maestro Automatic Moon Phase Semainier Watch. It is an extraordinarily stunning timepiece. Where the other models feature a cleverly implemented Moon Phase window in which a rising moon progresses behind stylized clouds to indicate the phase, Semainier’s Moon Phase complication is a silver dial with full moon at 12 o’clock, waxing quarter moon at 3 o’clock, dark of the moon at 6 o’clock, and waning quarter moon at 9 o’clock, all described in midnight blue.
